Woke up late.....Well, that's what happens when you go out late the night before.....Well, got out the door by 10am.
I can't believe it's overcast. I've seen clouds for the first time in weeks this week, but this is the first overcast day since I left NY.
It was a weird feeling getting back in the road trip feel. But I'll be glad to leave the local drivers behind.
So, I started off on 118 West and and after a little while I start switching off between the local 1 and 101. This is an awesome road and I know it's going to get a lot better. All you do is follow the coastline. It's just hours and hours and miles and miles of beach. I even stopped once just to check out the surfers..
they are bad ass...it's freezing outside and they completely don't care....
11:20 pacific time I drove a little further and past the town of Ojai. Does anyone care about Ojai? If you do, you are a TV geek. This is where the Bionic Woman lived...Yeah, I'm a freak..
I drove a little further and drove thru Santa Barbara. This is a beautiful town. It's too nice. I feel like I'm too dirty for these people... It seemed like a chill Scarsdale on the beach. I parked and walked around. It was very family oriented in the area I walked thru. Once again it's really cold and people are chilling on the beach.... I would say it's in the high 60's - 70's.
I got back on the highway and drove past Vandenburg Air Force base and I'm pretty much the only person driving on the highway who isn't military. I also drive past NASA's Space camp.
2pm and I'm in San Luis Obispo. Now, if you would like to reference my log for Saturday June 1st I was watching the Travel Channel and they were listing the top 10 bathrooms around the world. One of them was here. I stopped off at the Madonna Inn and without shame went right up to the Front Desk and asked her about it. She knew exactly what I was talking about. Apparently I wasn't the first person to ask. The bathroom was hysterical. The urinal is just an open area with a rock wall. Once you pass the infrared line a waterfall starts and gives you a pleasurable peeing experience.
Ok, enough bathroom material....
I drove past a jail as I got back on the highway. Now, mind you, I've driven past a lot of jails on my way around the country... A lot of federal prisons, but this is the first one to be called California's Men's Colony. Colony? If you see barbed wire, men with shotguns and fences and you call it a colony...Ok, well, you have the guns. Call it what you like...
3pm and I'm in Morro Bay. The town with the big rock. I drove in and parked. It was cool little surfer town. Basically, every town is a surfer town. But this one was like a Surfer Montauk. I walked around, checked out the rock, got some lunch and did some shopping.
by the way, here's the rock...
Rte 1 is awesome. It is the most scenic route there is. It hugs the coastline and twists and curves. It's really quite breathtaking. It would be better if this ass would move out of my way....2 lane highway and this guy wants to go 20 miles an hour....
I drove by and stopped at Big Sur for a little while...This place is just awesome
My first day back driving and I'm really tired...I've become a lightweight. I decide to stop at Carmel and stay the night.
Carmel is such a cute little town. I went to the pizza place behind the hotel and asked the girl behind the counter what's there to do here tonight....and she was like...."hmm....not much......unless you like to shop...but other than that...nothing"....great...So, I guess I'll just go to bed.
