So, one day down...about 35 to go Woke up around 9am, and hung with David for a little while. By the time I got all my stuff together and called my cousin, Rouzbeh, it was around 11:15.. I got on the road about 11:20 Unfortunately, the directions mapquest gave me sent me right past the Pentagon around noon. They're still working on it and they're tons of security all over the place. 12:15 I'm in Arlington, VA and I'm at Rouzbeh's apt. We kicked back for about an hour catching up and then headed of to Georgetown. Georgetown is great. I didn't play tourist, because I was here about a year ago with my other cousin, Ashley...Anyway, we had lunch at a nice restaurant on the Potomac. For my New York friends, it's mostly similar to the bars and restaurants next to Battery Park. Our next place to go was the Tysons Corner mall (Tysons Corner is just west of D.C.)....Like I said, I'm not a tourist here. I picked up some shorts (it's getting hot and I'm not wearing jeans for the next month) Came back to Arlington, VA and dropped Rouzbeh off and started my drive 5pm My drive begins. I started on 495 to 95 South. By the way, really good thinking on my part...leaving the D.C. area at rush hour (I'm an idiot) 7:15 I thought it might be a nice idea to stop in Richmond, VA. I even saw a sign for the visitors center, so why now. I'll tell you why not. Because they put the visitors center right next to the crack den. I drove a couple of miles before I decided this is a really bad idea. So I head back to 95 south. It's now 7:45 and as I keep driving on 95 South, I realize the nice part of Richmond is completely on the other side of town...Oh well, too late... 8:10pm on 85 South now 8:20 off 85 South, because this is boring...I decide to take side road for a while. I find a nice side road that goes parallel to 85 South. And there was no one on the road anywhere....ah, I know why...I pass the Baptist Church and the parking lot is packed!! Also, in between the really small farms houses are houses that would rival the ones in Scarsdale...and they are completely hidden.. 8:50 I jumped back onto 85 South 9pm Dinner...What's for dinner? A rice krispy treat....as bret or homer would say, "you put that filth in your body?"...Yes, my diet has a lot to be desired...A shrimp coctail for lunch and a rice krispy treat for dinner...wow, I eat well 9:30 Crossed into North Carolina As I crossed into North Carolina, I saw two interesting signs....Bullocksville and Kerr Lake...So after driving for hours the mind gets goofy....I imagined a town dedicated to Sandra Bullock and the more I thought about it, the more it disturbed me as you the reader probably are already...Then I thought about Kerr lake and wondered if there was bar there and if Eric Margolis had to clean the lake? very random...I'm sorry for wasting your time with this.. 10:30 Arrived in Durham, NC and thought, now is the time to sleep...Drove thru the city and found it to be a nice little town...about the size of white plains....anyway, it's time to sleep.....Tomorrow morning starts my trip to Greenville, SC.
notes: David, thanks again for letting me crash at your apt. Rouzbeh, thanks for lunch Jason, I'll call you when I get a chance Rector, I'd love to go out on Monday, but I'll be way out of NYC then My favorite road sign on the way: Tell the kids I love them - God does god get a special deal on advertising? Funniest radio sweeper I hear today: WRDU...where the music comes first.....and then rolls over and smokes a fatty!!! Julie, I'll call you when I get a chance |
